. . . rough form, unfinished, a bit scattered . . .
Mostly to test how this blogging system works.
Some days it really seems like everyone has PTSD to some
degree, at some level, in some way. I and several of my
friends occasionally Fight/Flight/Freeze/Faint reactively,
and then it's up to us to try to connect as best we can.
Even the hired help needs help! So, how can I help
myself and also the people around us, without demanding
that everyone be perfectly functional and coherent?
I really just want to have some nice friends to share the
most fulfilling life together. Even when people are
freaking out, could we learn from and hold onto, and
support each other? We're gonna have to know about
PTSD and OCD and ADHD and EFT and EMDR and NVC
and the integration of ... well, everything.
1) Find Therapist Listings
Check some lists of certified masters ...
EFT Masters shows 29 worldwide, but none in Portland.
EMDR International Assoc. lists 26 practitioners within 5 miles of 97214.
http://hakomiinstitute.com/about/faculty
Try googling for combinations of modalities...
+"EMDR" +"Hakomi" finds 3120 pages
+"EMDR" +"Hakomi" +"Somatic" finds 2910 pages
+"EMDR" +"Hakomi" +"Somatic" +"Coach" finds 1930 pages
(Hint: Using double quotes makes many more results show up.)
Try googling for combinations of the favorite therapists...
+"Kristine Nystrom" +"Carol Spears" finds 1 page
+"Catherine Rose" +"Ross Cohen" finds 0 page
2a) PortlandTherapyCenter.com
To find a suitable Somatic Therapist in Portland,we search through PortlandTherapyCenter.com .
It's a simple index that lists 183 psychotherapists in the Portland area.
(To run the searches yourself, right-click on any of the
yellow links, to then "Open Link in New Tab").
1) List all therapists (183 found)
2) Filter them for "PTSD" (146 found)
3) Filter them for "Oregon Health Plan" (7 found)
4) Filter them for "PTSD" and "Oregon Health Plan" (7 found)
Those 7 are a good start, but there is more digging that can be done.
After all, we have an entire city of 2M people to choose from!
The info page for "PTSD" lists 29 primary therapists
but Googling for "PTSD" on that website shows 280 results
Noticing that the info page only showcases SOME of the therapists
involved, what if we use Google to find all the topical therapists?
For example, the info page for ...
"EMDR" showcases 12 primary therapists but Google reveals 18 available.
"Hakomi" lists 3 primary therapists but Google reveals 16 available.
"NVC" lists 2 primary therapists but Google reveals 48 available.
"Sensorimotor" lists 3 primary therapists but Google reveals 7 available.
"Somatic Therapy" lists 7 primary therapists but Google reveals 45 available.
"Solution-Focused Brief Therapy" lists 9 therapists but Google reveals 84 available.
These are all good searches, so let's combine
"PTSD", "Hakomi" AND "Somatic Therapy", which then finds 14 results
Only one of those 14 takes Oregon Health Plan: 1 result! (JoDee Brown !)
Maybe that's a good first try.
2b) PsychologyToday.com

After all these searches, we find the following therapistsmost interesting to call and talk with.

I specialize in helping people who find it difficult to truly be themselves in relationships with others. I also specialize in helping helping people with anxiety develop calm, ease, and clarity. While performing in theater brought me joy, eventually I become more inspired and fulfilled by spirituality, meditation, Buddhism, inner work, and healing. These interests led me through a variety of psychological and transformational studies until I eventually earned my Masters in Contemplative Psychotherapy at Naropa University, one of the only Buddhist-inspired accredited school in the country. Here is where I learned the unique art of helping others. It is important that you know I have experienced my own struggles, challenges, heartaches, lows, and extremes. Moreover, I can tell you from my personal experience as a client, that therapy does help.Carolyn Knutson
